I think another part of the strategy is be more mindful of the kinds of news you subscribe to. The 24/7 news outlets need to fill time and it is much easier to fill it with negative - I also believe that this makes the whole economy worse since people overreact to the news - see major ups and downs of the stock market over seemingly small bits of information.
Subscribe to good news - find something to laugh about - even if it is yourself. Go see a feel good movie - maybe the oscar winner perhaps.
Monitor yourself and find out what you need to do to be more positive.
No matter what, you have the right to choose and choosing to think, feel and act more positive is a choice we MUST all make - not just now but moving forward.

Excellent point Rick! The more people are glued to the news, the more they react to fluctuations and the more their mood is taken on a roller coaster ride.

I dramatically limit the amount of news I watch. The downside is that I'm not always up on everything but the upside (focusing on what I want to focus on each day-- what's going well) is definitely worth it.

Managing "thoughts" is the need of the hour. In this age of "cut and paste" technology and "quick fix solutions", we are forgetting to think. Our mind is powerful and to be able to tap its potential at the right time is a blessing. If we "think" we cannot manage now, "we cannot" if we tell ourselves "so what? - what next?", our mind starts thinking of new avenues. We are capable of surviving with less - it is our ego that does not allow this. I tried speaking people out of this situation and it works!!. It is always encouraging to visit your blog Larina.

Thanks for the insights, Sivaram, I completely agree. Thoughts are free and within our control. It's harder to manage them than ever (when we're under stress) but also more important than ever.
