In my yoga class, my teacher often talks of getting an intention for the class. An intention can be as simple as "be fully present over the next 90 minutes," and in fact, is often more powerful when it isnt goal oriented.
So I started thinking about about my intentions from the week and a half that I'm taking off from meeting with clients over the holidays, and came up with ideas like:
- Enjoy being in the present moment and appreciating it for what it is (even in the freezing cold and ice of upstate New York).
- Reconnect with old friends (who've I've found thanks to Facebook).
- Eat at least one home cooked meal per day.
- Practice yoga everyday.
- When inspired, work on my annual business reinvention.
- Take a step back, relax, rejuvenate, energize.
What are your work and life intentions for the holiday season?
If you're like me (constantly on the go and goal focused), try an intention that is different from your typical goal setting-- one that helps you to take it easy and allow thoughts, experiences, and opportunities to come to you, rather than going after them.
My dog Casey's intention: Play in the snow and take lots of naps!
Happy Holidays everyone!

Hi Larina,
Thanks for the notes on making resolutions that stick. I particularly liked the comment that we need to move beyond our comfort zone in stages, rather than thinking in an all-or-nothing framework.

Thanks Daniel. You've picked up on the key- the most important part is to think big, but take it a step at a time. Happy New Year!
